One of the scariest times for me as a boat owner is when my boat is underway and I am not on board. How is the boat being operated? What are the sea conditions? Most importantly, is everyone being safe? Being a boat owner for years, rest assured I understand those emotions.
Weather it is a new (to you) delivery or a relocation from one port to the next the process is essentially the same – consultation, planning, pre departure safety and mechanical inspection, communication while underway, final inspection and trip log with pre and post relocation pictures.
I start with a zero-obligation consultation. During this process we will spend time together in person on the boat, on a video chat or phone call. Together we will discuss your expectations for your boat. Where is it located? Where does it need to go? What timeline? Will it require additional crew? What route options?
Once we agree that we are a good fit for each other, I will start preparing a float plan. Even for a local move, I can spend hours planning. I look at weather, tides, alternative routes, fuel stops, marinas along the way, etc. Once a plan it put together we will discuss it and as many variables along the way as possible. Regardless of all variables, there is a mutually agreeable plan in place prior to proceeding.
Prior to leaving the dock (daily for multi day trips) I will review all safety gear, visually inspect engine room and major compartments, take pictures and upon request, check fluids for any operating machinery. I want to make sure your boat arrives in the same condition it was in when it left the dock.
While underway, I will be in commutation with you as often as you would like. I will be logging items like location, cruise speed, engine rpm, and other available data. Not only will this be a nice report for your files, it will also ensure that I am keeping an watchful eye on everything and operating your boat in a manner you choose.
At the boats final port or daily for multi day trips, another inspection will be conducted. I will take pictures of the exterior, engine room, major compartments, dock lines and fenders. All lines will be cleated and flemished appropriately. Fenders hitched or cleated based on their locations. Shore power and water will be hooked up as per the instruction of our plan. Finally, pictures will be sent to you for review prior to departing your boat. My goal is to ensure your boat is left in manner that is 100% acceptable condition.
